A guide should be plain about the road he’s actually traveled. Beneath the ministry and the music is a working life — classrooms, consulting, and the schooling that shaped it. God gave me time in the marketplace, the studio, and the classroom, and I’ve tried to steward all of it.
Teaching
For about a decade I taught technology, programming, and audio-video production.
1998 – 2005Pittsburgh Technical Institute
Instructor (1998–2002), then Department Chair of Electronics (2002–2005), leading a team of nine and overseeing curriculum, scheduling, and budget. Taught database design and management, A+ technologies, and operating systems.
2005 – 2012Adjunct Professor, Pittsburgh Technical Institute
Information Technology, Multimedia Technology, and Programming, with a specialty in database development and management.
2009 – 2012iCarnegie (a Carnegie Mellon University subsidiary)
Mentored new professors at institutions adopting iCarnegie’s courses; certified to teach its database and user-interface curriculum.
Consulting
Alongside the teaching, I spent years in independent IT and business-process consulting — infrastructure, networking, custom software, and streamlining how a business runs. A representative project: in 2006 I helped Volkwein’s Music, a company more than a century old, modernize its IT infrastructure and business-process software. The mix I brought was unusual — public accounting, entrepreneurship, technology, and a long study of human behavior — but it came down to one thing: understanding people, and building things that fit them and last.
